A super nice event at Franklin & Marshall College. Here are all of the rocking chairs and other rocking chair art ready to be auctioned off.
Here is a shot through the rockers of the quilt on Auction Nite.
May 16, 2006 Here we are taking the final photos. Quilt was delivered May 17, 2006. Rockin' Chair Project Opening was June 2, 2006. This quilt will be in the Lancaster News lobby area on display till September, when it will be auctioned off.
You can sort of see the rocking chair quilted in.
Each one takes 3 hours to quilt!
Here is some of the quilting.
You can see the rocking chair quilted in surrounded by freeform feathers and lots & lots of stippling.
The quilt is pin basted and ready to quilt!
Here we are with one border attached. Just one more to go and it's quiltin' time!
Just need to finish the top! Still on schedule!
Couldn't just settle with dying one piece. So I overdyed a few others.
First in the sink, then 2 more washes in hot water and Synthrapol in the washer.
100 plus strips later...and the inner border is complete. Current measurement is about 70" square. Now to re-dye the border fabric...
Decided that the yellow/tan had to be corraled. Added hand-dyed setting corners and a center wonky square!
All part of the decision making process...Do I keep strictly with the theme...or add something else?
Got some solid blocks of time today. Nearly ran out of the center fabric...Used nearly every scrap!
Here is the finished product. This fabric will cure about 6 hours before washout #1.
I use Procion MX fiber reactive dyes. They come in a very fine powder that is mixed with water. If you don't wear one of these, you may be sneezing "fuschia" later in the day!
Here are my dying pans ready for action.
Not happy with the design...How about this?
I have the design down and am working through fabric choices!
